A Journey of Memories:Six Years Spent in China
In 2018, I set foot in China — a new land, a new language, a new beginning. What began as a leap of faith soon became a journey that shaped every part of me. Over the course of six years, China didn’t just teach me medicine — it taught me how to live with warmth, grace, and gratitude.
From the very first day, I found myself growing in ways I never expected. The rhythm of life between classes, clinical postings, late-night studies, hospital wards, and casual canteen chats soon became my second nature. The teaching halls echoed with knowledge, and the hospital corridors became my training ground — not just as a doctor, but as a person of empathy. Those familiar spaces inside and outside campus — the dorm rooms, the cafés, the street vendors, the alleyways we walked endlessly — are now etched into my memory like a map of emotions.
At the 2023 Forum, Su Bing shared Indian culture.

I owe every bit of this journey to the incredible people I was blessed to have around me — my family in India who supported me unconditionally from afar, my extended family in China who made it feel like home, my friends who became family, and the professors and mentors whose guidance shaped my foundation. Our intern year was unforgettable — filled with intense preparation for licensing exams with help of daily practice of question banks, understanding through video lectures and also finding days where no study is being done at all because of unpredictability of life, yet realized the importance of not giving up and balanced beautifully with laughter, late-night dinners, and quiet moments of shared dreams with friends. Those days reminded me that even in the pressure of becoming a doctor, one must not forget to live.
Now, as I stand at the crossroads of the future, preparing and planning for residency abroad and at the same time I find myself back in India working in a tertiary care hospital as a trainee— sharpening my skills, learning something new from every patient I meet. From inserting a simple cannula to decoding the symptoms of complex conditions, I remind myself daily that medicine is not just science — it’s empathy. And no matter how tough it gets, that core of compassion must never fade.
Su Bing interned at the First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University.
Leaving China in the last week of February 2025 was one of the most overwhelming moments of my life. Each day felt like a slow goodbye. I walked through the same streets, visited the same little shops I had frequented for years, and had my favorite cold noodles (凉皮) one last time. Every bite, every step, every face carried a wave of memories. Meeting my friends and people I held close for what might be the last time was emotional in a way words can’t quite express. It wasn’t just a farewell to a place — it was a farewell to a chapter of life that had become my identity.Though I’ve left physically, a part of my heart will always remain in China. It gave me the space to grow, the people to love, and the memories I’ll cherish forever. This is not the end. Just the closing of a beautiful chapter — one I will always carry with softness, pride, and endless gratitude.
