Objectives
Students who enroll in Newspaper Workshop apply the skills they learned in other Journalism or Photojournalism classes in a setting where staff and editors make the decisions regarding the day‐ to‐day operation of the publication. They will be in charge of almost all of it by creating an online school newspaper. This requires several departments and jobs. It is all hands-on deck for small media outlets such as the one you will be producing. This means that you will have to develop skills for a variety of situations. Any media operation is based on the written word, so you will be required to write at least three articles: breaking/current news, feature, evergreen story, and/or news analysis. You will ultimately be assigned one department, but you also be expected to participate in several departments of the newspaper such as peer evaluation, editing, writing, graphics and marketing.
Because of the deadlines, working nights maybe essential.
