On the evening of May 12, 2023, the 3rd Chinese Speech Contest for International Students was successfully held in the International School.
Mr. Liu Ming, vice dean of the International School, extended a warm welcome to the judges and students joining the contest. He said, “As studying Chinese has become an increasingly popular choice, mastering the language is crucial for international students to explore and understand Chinese culture and society.”
The contest, themed My Beautiful Encounter with China, attracted a number of participants from different countries and regions. Eleven contestants were shortlisted for the final round. Dressed in Han Dynasty Chinese Costume, they shared their experiences during their study in China: traveling, tasting traditional Chinese food, learning Chinese characters, poetry, philosophical thoughts, religion, and traditional Chinese medicine.
Abdulloeva Mahina, a first-year undergraduate from Tajikistan talked about how her dream of studying in China came true; NG MAN HWEE from Malaysia expressed her admiration of Chinese poetry; Ann Thomas from India spoke about her understanding of Chinese religious culture, and showed her love for traditional Chinese architecture with exquisite paintings; Montgomery Berrones from Ecuador explained the profound influence of traditional Chinese philosophy on him, winning rounds of applause for his humor. In addition, the contestants also performed talent shows including Chinese calligraphy, Chinese painting, singing and guzheng playing.
After two hours of demonstration, the judges scored the contestants in terms of pronunciation, content, body language, Q&A and talent show. The winners are:

The Chinese Speech Contest for International Students aims to promote international students’ understanding of China. This event is not only a display of their learning achievements, but also serves as a platform for cultural exchange.
