On Sunday, March 5, 2023, around 50 students from the International School were joined by student instructors Yang Luyao and He Siqi for the first learning tour in this semester. The cultural exploration trip in Nansha Tin Hau Palace is aimed at providing an opportunity for students to learn about the history of Chinese coastal defense and Mazu culture.
The first stop was Guangzhou Coastal Defense Education Base, where students visited the gunpowder bureau, the fort site and so on. The next stop was Tin Hau Palace, a National 4A Grade Tourist Attraction in honor of Mazu, who represents peace, kindness and fraternity. During the tour, students explored the landscapes and shared the history they’ve learned about in the classroom
This excursion provided students with a taste of local life and the chance to get a better understanding on Lingnan culture. Rabia Minhaj, an international student majoring in MBBS, expressed her love for the event: “The tour was a refreshing and relaxing time for me. I enjoyed the whole trip from when I made new friends on the bus to cycled with friends in the park. The cultural of this area made the trip a knowledgeable, yet fun experience. I thank my teachers from the bottom of my heart and the international school for granting me this opportunity”.
