Experiments on Pharmaceutics is a laboratorial course opened for Pharmaceutics, which may help students to apply theoretical knowledge learned in Pharmaceutics to practice. It is one of the important specialty compulsory courses for students major in Pharmacy. The teaching objective and requirements of this course are as follows:
1. Teaching Objectives
(1) To enable the students to master the main contents, methods, means and techniques of research and application in Pharmaceutics through preparation of ordinary dosage forms. Students are trained for basic laboratorial skills in Pharmaceutics and are qualified to perform relevant research and manufacture practices in Pharmacy.
(2) To enable the students to know the advanced development in Pharmaceutics well by doing experiments on new techniques and novel dosage forms of Pharmaceutics.
(3) To tightly combine the fundamentally theoretical knowledge learned in lecture classes and practical operation skills obtained in laboratorial classes, so that to enable the students to further understand the rational knowledge obtained from lectures during the process of achieving perceptual knowledge in laboratorial classes. Also to help the students effectively apply the theoretical knowledge to practical operations to realize the efficient combination of the both.
(4) Through the design experiment, to cultivate the students' comprehensive ability to bring forth, analyze and solve problems, inspire the students' creative minds, make them brave in innovation and exploration, and enable them to form strong team cooperation spirit.
2. Teaching Requirements:
(1) To study and master the basic experimental operation skills of Pharmaceutics; the typical preparing process, formulation designing methods, related principles, commonly used excipients and key quality control steps of ordinary dosage forms. To know the testing methods specified in Pharmacopoeia.
(2) To study and master the elementary operation, preparation methods and excipients commonly used for new techniques and novel dosage forms of Pharmaceutics, so as to establish basis for research and application in the field.
(3) In the experimental operation, pay attention to the efficient combination of theory and practice. Through the design experiment, enhance the students' ability of raising, analyzing and solving problem, and their creative and team cooperation spirits.
The main teaching contents of Experiments on Pharmaceutics include preparation and quality examination of various ordinary dosage forms, and some experiments about new techniques and novel dosage forms of pharmaceutics. The experiments of ordinary dosage forms comprise ointments, suppositories, liquid preparations, injections, tablets and granules, etc. The experiments about new techniques and novel dosage forms of pharmaceutics include the preparation of dripping pills, inclusion compounds and microcapsules. At the same time, the course sets a design experiment. In this experiment, students may comprehensively use their theoretical and practical knowledge to design and carry out the experiment by themselves, and they are required to analyze and discuss the results scientifically. By doing the design experiment, the students will well understand the general flow steps of research on pharmaceutical preparations, and will know how to write a formal scientific research report.
