Make Friends at Foreigners Dinner
Foreigners Dinner was successfully held in Well done Café near main campus on Oct 22nd. 55 foreigners from about 30 countries joined the activity, well organized by Oversea Students Affairs Department.
The activity was started with Seiji Iwaki, the head of OSD, proposing a toast at 7:20 p.m. to welcome all the guests. And Sheila, the president of International School Student Union also added a few words to thank OSD for their great efforts.“I am glad to see so many people come to this event which is the first time ever in our Student Union, and hope that all of you can have fun tonight,” said Sheila.
The speech, followed by an interesting language game, broke the ice and set a delighting atmosphere for tonight’s dinner. The host whispered Japanese and Chinese sentences to the first one of each roll and people needed pass the words one by one. Foreigners tried to imitate and speak Chinese with their clumsy tongue, while giggling and chatting.
Each table had a OSD member who can speak Chinese to help the foreigners order their food and communicate with waitresses to make sure everyone is well served. Participants were split into different groups. And they were busy talking, laughing and enjoying their meals with each other.
“Because you will only talk to few people if seated with friends,” said Marina Briz from Spain, “it’s good to sit with people you don’t know and make friends.”
Foreigners Dinner is a first-year activity specially hosted for foreigners to make friends and communicate with strangers. “I am so proud of OSD, because it’s our first time to hold this event and it can be so successful,” said Yong Che Wun, Kimberly from Malaysia. “Our hard work really pays off.”
