As we expected, the second part of the preliminary contest of the English Debate took place in the South Campus, on the afternoon of April 17^th 2016. Applying the rule of the British Parliament, eight debaters represented different roles in the houses.

On the afternoon, all the debaters arrived at the room early. It seemed that they had done ample preparation, just waiting to present their excellent debates to us. Besides, it was also our honor to have our teacher Jay, Geeta, Chen Hoi, Tom and Anne to be the judges this time.

At first, 15 PHA and 15 FQS began their debate over the topic, Whether Sex Education Should Be Included in Secondary School Curriculums. Both sides showed their great confidence, attacked the other with the weapon of words without any mercy, and made use of the logical method to persuade others. They brought us a fabulous competition. Then our judges gave their comments, pushing the following competitions to another climax. 

Then began the debate between 15 CST and 15 IET. They argued Whether Artificial Intelligence Will Surpass the Human Intelligence. After AlphaGo beat Lee Se-dol last month, the development of AI is receiving more and more attention from the public. Consequently, our debaters had a fierce fight over this topic, and at last, our judges spoke out their understanding and suggestions frankly, which benefited us all to a large extent.

The final debate was between 15 FNC and 15 CPA, discussing Whether the Strict Discipline Style of Tiger Mother Is Superior to the Soft One of Sheep Mother. During the debate, some competitors gave profound remarks, causing applause from the audience again and again. According to Tom, this was the most brilliant debate he had ever seen in recent 20 years, and all the judges agreed that it was the highlight in the ED this year.

Bravo! Thanks to these debates, we can feel the beauty in the fights of words, the communication of thoughts and the collisions of wisdom. Eventually, 15 IET, 15 FNC and 15CPA got the access to the final debates, where they will meet 14 IJ, 15 IJ, 14 MBBS and 15 MBBS. Congratulations to them and please look forward to it!!
