A Dancing Night Full of Passion

On the evening of June 2nd,the eagerly anticipated Jinan University 2013 International Folk Dance Competition was held in the school auditorium. 37 students and 4 teachers represented the International School in the competition and won first prize in the African section with the wonderful dance named Africa Tribe. The International School also won third prize in the Poster Design and Culture Stand competition.
The International School was the third group to give their performance. With all the dancers colored in black and dressed up like people found in African tribes, audiences immediately found themselves in Africa. The dance expressed a dance competition in an Africa tribe.
In the first part of the dance, all the dancers were dancing on the stage to describe the everyday life of the tribe. After that, the female dancers left, leaving the males on the stage to perform in the dance competition. When the competition was over, the female dancers returned to reward the competitors with fruit and flowers. The fantastic dance received thunderous applause from the audience.
After all the teams’ performances, it was time for the award ceremony. On hearing that the International School won first prize, all the students from the International School felt an overwhelming a sense of pride and happiness.
In order to give such an excellent performance, all the participants put in a lot of time and effort over the past 2 months. “I did feel very tired during the training period, especially in the last week. We began training at 7pm. and did not go back to dormitory until 12pm.” One of the participants said after the competition. “But I still felt very excited and proud of our performance.” The leader of the dance group was also a member of the school art association. He said though the preparation process was a tough time, he was thankful that all the participants devoted themselves to it. “Since we are from different majors, it was difficult for us to find common time to train; however, we made it and we communicated well with each other regardless of which country we were from.” said the dance leader.
It was a fruitful night for International School and it was an experience that will never be forgotten for all of the participants.
