The debate between Zhuhai and the International School
A few days ago, on April 13th at 3 p.m the debate between Zhuhai School (ZH) and the International School (IS) was held at the school lecture hall. The topic to be debated about was global warming. ZH School represented the positive side, debating the idea that human awareness is the most effective way to slow down the phenomenon of global warming. IS represented the negative side debating the idea that international legislation is the most effective way to slow down the phenomenon of global warming.
Altogether there were five parts to the debate, first constructive speech, cross examination, second constructive speech, first rebuttal, and second rebuttal. As the debate progressed it became more and more fierce. IS debaters’ cleverness surprised the crowed since they were all freshmen. Although they were the youngest out of all the debaters, they held a well-trained and confident stature in front of the crowd. During the debate, they showed their rapid and intelligent response to the judges. Despite their skill and intellect, in the end ZH School won with a close score of 260 to 247 points. The debate was a close match, and I’m sure it was evident to the crowd that there was not much difference between the two teams. One of IS’ representing debater, Paris(Hu Xiaonan) had an outstanding score of 132 points. Our school’s debate team shows a promising future with their braveness.
After the debate, Professor Wang from the Foreign Language School praised the courage of our IS team and gave some reasons as to why we lost, such as a low vocabulary usage. Our school’s debaters are still young just like our newly established school. We will continue to achieve with our youthful spirit and will progress further in the future.
