Objectives:
The course fosters the knowledge and ability of basic structure, function, diseases, diagnosis and treatment of ophthalmology for medical students. This program prepares the students to be doctors with up-to-date ocular knowledge, thus enabling them, on their graduation, to have ability of basic clinical practice of ophthalmology.
Requirements:
Mastering the concepts, clinical manifestations, laboratory findings and associated investigations, diagnosis and differential diagnosis, prevention and treatment of ocular diseases. Being familiar with the etiology, pathogenesis, pathology, pathophysiology, of ophthalmology and knowing the new and updated knowledge of it.
Contents:
The globe is a highly complex object. To adequately understand the globe as an organ of vision, it is first essential to understand its structure and the complex interrelationships that exist between its internal organization and the external elements surrounding it. Ophthalmology is involving the etiology, epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, diagnosis and differential diagnosis, treatment and prevention of the diseases of organ of vision including eyeball (cornea, lens and vitreous, uvea, sclera, retina glaucoma, et al.), ocular adnexa (lids, conjunctiva, lacrimal apparatus, extraocular muscles, et al.) and visual pathway. Teaching contents include basic theories and scientific knowledge, and technical skills of inner and outer ocular diseases, ocular disorders associated with systemic diseases, and prevention and treatment of blindness. The theory courses confer the contents of each chapter according to ocular teaching outline. Clinical probation contains the check-up, manipulation, drugs, instruments, equipment, case history and operation watching of ophthalmology. The students should be cultivated the abilities of clinical thinking and analysis, independent judgment and problem solving, clinical manipulation and human communication, as well as favorable medical virtue.
