Chemical Pharmaceutical Technology

The course takes chemical pharmacy as the major teaching content, based on organic synthetic chemistry, combines the laws and regulations related to the pharmaceutical industry and new theories and new examples of industry development, and carries out a more detailed and comprehensive introduction to current chemical pharmaceutical process.

Computer-Aided Drug Design

Computer-Aided Drug Design (CADD) is a new technology developed in the past 30 years and has gradually become an independent branch of pharmacy. Base on Mathematics, Medicinal Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Structural Chemistry, Quantum chemistry, and molecular mechanics, CADD use computer numerical calculation and logical judgment, database, graphics, artificial intelligence to carry out rational drug design.

Biopharmaceutical Engineering

The Biopharmaceutical sectors are among the fastest growing in the Life Sciences area both nationally and internationally.

Biopharmaceutical Engineering involves study of the discovery, development and processing of modern, medical drugs by artificially growing some or all of the components utilizing cell culture technologies. The processes involved are more biological-based as compared to the more chemical-based processes associated with small-molecule pharmaceutical products.

The focus of the Biopharmaceutical Engineering course is to provide individuals with the knowledge needed to understand and apply sound engineering principles to the industrial production of therapeutics by means of biological processes. This course also attempts to help learner understand basic concepts, basic theories and basic knowledge of the source, composition, structure, activity, properties and clinical application of each kind of biopharmaceutical. The use of microbial/biological systems and the manipulation of biological systems for the production of pharmaceutical products and therapeutic agents are becoming increasingly important for the health care industry as a whole.

It is the overall aim of this postgraduate course to provide individuals with the knowledge and skills to become part of the pharmaceutical, healthcare or biotechnology workforce.

Research and Development of Natural Products

Natural products have been a fertile area of chemical and pharmaceutical investigation for many years. “Research and development of natural products” is a discipline that applies modern organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, biology and other methods to study the active ingredients of natural medicines, and develops new drugs from natural products. It is a compulsory course for pharmacy and related majors. Through the study of this subject, firstly, students are required to master the basic theories and methods used in Natural medicinal chemistry; secondly, the key points will be given to the structural types, physical and chemical properties, extraction and separation and structural identification of individual categories of natural products, e.g. alkaloids, flavonoids and terpenoids; and finally, the students will learn to the process of how to develop new drugs from natural products.

Drug Toxicology

Drug Toxicology studies the adverse effect of the drugor potential drugon the living organism (mostly human) and the underlying mechanism of it . It is a multidisciplinary subject. Its knowledge covers bio-disposition process of the drugs/toxicants, mechanism of the toxicity, general toxicities and organ/system specific toxicological studies, as well as preclinical toxicological studies. The information provided by the Drug Toxicology will help to estimate, evaluate, interpret and prevent the toxicities of the drugs or potential drugs. It also informs the college students (of Master-Degree) with the importance of the drug toxicological study, as well as the basic preclinical toxicological study methods.

Drug Regulatory Affairs

Drug Regulatory Affairs is an elective course for graduate students. It will systematically introduce regulatory pathways for drug. This course focuses on FDA’s regulatory process for pharmaceutical product. Students are expected to have a comprehensive understanding of the most current US regulatory requirements across pharmaceutical product. Students are also expected to apply the regulatory concepts for drug development and marketing approval application.

Pharmaceutical Preparation Technology

Pharmaceutics is a comprehensive practical technique discipline which relates to studies on basic theory, formulation design, preparing process, quality control and reasonable application of pharmaceutical preparations. Study of Pharmaceutics may provide the students with indispensable basic specialty knowledge, which lets them to develop smoothly and progress continuously in their future careers on pharmaceutical research, manufacture and supplying. Pharmaceutical Preparation Technology focuses on the preparing process, including related basic theory, formulation and preparing process design. In study of postgraduate stage, the course mainly introduces preparation technology used in different kinds of drug delivery systems, including sustained release and controlled release preparations, microparticle drug delivery systems and targeting preparations, which are the advanced research and development field of pharmaceutics. Through the interactive learning of different manners between teachers and students, students can establish a relatively systematic basic knowledge system related to the preparing process of pharmaceutical preparations.
