THE IS LION AND DRAGON DANCE TEAM – CLOSING PERFORMANCE FOR THE SEMESTER
To enrich International students’ campus cultural life and to motivate them to recognise the value of Chinese culture, International school established the Lion and Dragon team by the support of the Student affairs department of Jinan University. The last training class for this semester came to an end with an outstanding performance by the union performers on the 13th of June, 2014. The program was presided by the Vice President of Jinan University - Prof Ye Qin, the director of Student Affairs Department-Ms. Ou Xiangli, the dean of International School - Prof Shuze Tang, Party secretary of International school– Prof Deng Yongzhong, deputy secretary of International school – Mr Liu, staff and students of International School. The program was inaugurated by speech delivered by the Vice President, as he appreciated the initiative taken to establish the International Chinese Cultural committee thereby promoting traditional Chinese culture among international students. Following the vice president’s speech, the dean of international school - Prof Shuze Tang gave a short speech congratulating the team for their astounding performance they had displayed in JCF, appreciating the efforts that the union has taken to train and encouraged them to keep this union strong and alive for performing in bigger arena for greater programs. There were three performances by the students for the closing evening; two dragon and one lion dance. The Dragon dance teams showcased swaying of the dragon, circling and forming different formations which are the significant movements of the Dragon dance. The Lion dance team exhibited the beautiful movements of the lion puppet heads and graceful movements of bowing down. The audience and the guests were enthralled by the precise movements and coordination exhibited by the students in performing these dances. Since April the IS lion and dragon dance team have practiced twice every week and had made great progress. In the recent debut of JNU International cultural festival, IS lion and Dragon dance team received warm applauses from students and dignitaries of the show. The team is specially trained by the trainers of Nanhai Huangfeihong Lion and Dragon Association of Foshan. After the performances, the students of the union were appreciated with momentos for their training, dedication and exhibiting fruits of the efforts taken in performing the dances. The momentos and certificates were awarded by the dignitaries. The program ended with happy smiles and the moments were captured with a happy photo session.
