Course Objectives,Reqiurements,Contents:

This course, International Trade Practice, serves the major of international economics and trade as one of key compulsory courses offered in International School of Jinan University. Instruction language is English, with a total of 60 hrs of classroom instruction for one academic semester (3 hrs / week X 20 wks = 60 hrs).

It is a comprehensive course that systematically introduces the general situations and basic concepts of international trade from, for instance, international trade terms, procedures of import and export business, features and factors of commodity, pricing of commodity, logistics and insurance, inspection and claims, force majeure and arbitration, contract execution, modes of trade, technology trade and commercial cultures, etc. In addition, a general view of the history and administrative structure of WTO and relevant international organizations is provided for a deeper understanding of the course on the part of students.

The course aims to provide the students with a bird’s view of international trade from a theoretical perspective and a practical knowledge of international trade business, both of which shape the students with such capabilities as adaptability and flexibility in international commerce and other related affairs. For this purpose, the course boasts of the following features:

Universality: this course claims to be of vital significance in the current economic globalization for its disciplinary sequence and universality. With its core values introduced in an orderly way, it serves students from different cultural backgrounds assisted by a systematic and comparative studies of Chinese and western cultures. 

Practicality: this course falls into 5 parts with 23 chapters, most of which are of a practical characteristics and specific orientations, e.g. trade procedures, documentation and case studies, etc.

Abundance of case studies: This course is to be conducted by abundant case studies to reinforce students’ professional expertise. 

Multi-function: The instructor of this course, Prof. Sunwood DAI, acquired many years of actual work experience both in China and in Germany, which warrants a better teaching methodology as well as a richer professional knowledge on the part of the students after completing the course.
