A Peer Sharing about the IS League Committee and Students Union

It was a rainy day and the presidium of IS League Committee and Student Union came to the south campus at 19:00 on Nov.7th, 2014. Jessie, the vice-chairman, was the first one to give audience a speech.
Jessie encouraged all the freshmen to ask questions and shared her own experience with them. When asked how to get higher positions in student union, she advised freshmen to take an active part in the daily work and not to forget to study. The most important thing is cooperation and responsibility. And when talking about English learning, Jessie said that just taking good use of the resource provided by IS by communicating with native speakers.

 


At the end of her speech, she shared two unforgettable experiences, one of which was working for the debate competition, the other was preparing the first Model United Union in JNU. These two experiences helped her to learn a lot.
After that, Dilly, also a vice-chairman, shared her experience. She expressed that though working for the student union was sometimes hard and busy, she chose to stay there because of her love for student union. She used to be a secretary in the first year like many other students, and then became a department leader in the second year. Now, she is one among the presidium. What was different to others, Dilly had never joined other organizations except for the IS League Committee and Student Union. She came to student union for work not just for fun like other students. When it referred to the key to act as a leader, she said that a leader has to take more pressures and duty for one to undertake. But the joy of success brought by hard and busy preparation work is beyond expression and explanation.

 


And then, the chairman, Chen, showed us a good presentation through Prezi which is a good application to make PPTs. Chen explained to the freshmen about skills of presentation, for example, one can recite the speech draft rather than read it to build his or her confident. Chen, Jessie and Dilly also mentioned the importance of communications and time management.

 


After a short break, Tom, the secretary general, shared his experience about work with new media. As one of the popular WeChat public ID "what you need" 's founder, Tom showed us an example to create the initial target and increase fans numbers for the various activities organized, including the early revolution, color run, as well as recent Starbucks activities. He concluded, public numbers and even any social media campaigns were targeted to a particular group, thus to reduce the demand and costs. And he also mentioned the use of the brand, such as Starbucks coffee and the Art Institute of Gao Yuanyuan film promotion (breaking 20,000 forwarding amount).
Presidium wished all the freshmen to do a good job in the future. And the meeting ended with a happy and gratifying atmosphere.
