The All-English Teaching Instructional Supervisors Group Conducted Classroom Inspection in Panyu Campus
On April 28, 2022, the All-English Teaching Instructional Supervisors Group of the International School conducted classroom observation in Panyu Campus. Headed by Professor Tang Shuze, former dean of the International School, the group members randomly visited the English-taught classes scheduled on this day for the purpose of teaching quality inspection and evaluation. The experts who participated in the observation are Li Pinghai, professor of Finance, Pan Sanqiang, professor of medicine, Shen Hongtao, professor of accounting, and Wu Fei, professor of Journalism and Communication.
In Panyu campus, members of the Instructional Supervisors Group visited 24 classrooms and audited the classroom lectures given off-line and on-line from the five undergraduate programs, including Finance, Accounting, Computer Science and Technology, International Economics & Trade and Pharmacy. Subsequently, the group held a centralized discussion and exchanged views based on their observation. The members agreed that all lecturers are adequately competent in delivering lectures in English. In spite of the difficulties caused by COVID-19 epidemic, they were conscientious about teaching online or offline and responsible to students. In class, most of the students listened attentively and asked questions actively. The classroom atmosphere was active.
Some experts of the group also attended the graduation thesis defense meetings held by Dr. Lifang Li and Dr. Ruolan Ouyang for two groups of finance majors respectively. They found that all graduating students were able to present their research topics in professional manner and with confidence and fluent academic English. Their thesis writing and defense received high comments from the judges. During their four years of study, students have developed comprehensive capability of confidence, academic competence, high English language proficiency and international vision. This fully demonstrates the uniqueness of undergraduate education in the International School.
At the same time, some weaknesses were exposed through this inspection. Experts found that on the part of lecturers, the efficiency and quality of online teaching, and in-class teaching skills still need to be further improved.
