Course Objectives & Requirements:

Biochemistry is a three-credit course in which we will examine the chemical and physical processes that occur within living organisms.

An introductory course in biochemistry dealing with the molecular basis of structure and metabolism of plants, animals, and microorganisms.

Chapter 6.1‐6.4, 6.8: Enzyme Mechanisms

Chapter 7.1‐7.7; 7.12; 7.14; 7.16: Coenzymes and Vitamins

Chapter 8.1‐8.3, 8.5‐8.7: Carbohydrates

Chapter 9.1‐9.3, 9.6, 9.8‐9.12: Lipids and Membranes

Chapter 10: Metabolism

Chapter 11.1‐11.6: Glycolysis

Chapter 12.1‐12.3, 12.5‐12.7: Additional Carbohydrate metabolism

Chapter 13: Citric Acid Cycle (“Krebs Cycle”)

Chapter 14.1‐14.12: Electron Transport & Oxid. Phosphorylation

Chapter 16.1, 16.3, 16.7, 16.9‐16.11: Lipid metabolism

Chapter 19: Nucleic Acids

Chapter 20.1‐20.7: DNA replication

Chapter 21: Transcription & RNA Processing

Chapter 22: Protein synthesis
